Docusate is no longer covered by Health Benefits

10/27/2016
Docusate, a medication used to soften stools and to help relieve constipation, will no longer be covered by Health Benefits. An independent review by the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) shows that docusate has little therapeutic value.  Health Benefits covers many other effective treatments for constipation that can be prescribed by a physician or nurse practitioner, or provided directly by the local pharmacist.Contact your health care provider to discuss what is right for you.  If you have any questions on coverage, please contact First Nations Health Benefits at 1-800-317-7878.
