Effective immediately, the First
Nations Health Authority (FNHA) has temporarily added pain and fever to the
list of conditions and symptoms that a pharmacist can dispense a supply of
over-the-counter medications to treat, without a doctor’s prescription.
Health Benefits understands it is a difficult time, and is making
changes to encourage physical distancing by reducing non-emergency doctor’s
visits.
Talk to your pharmacist about
getting a personal supply of over-the-counter medication for pain and fever and
which over-the-counter medication is right for you.

Plan W’s pharmacist-initiated
treatment list, describes a number of conditions and symptoms that your pharmacist
can provide a supply of over-the-counter medication to treat.
In most cases, your pharmacist is able to select and
dispense you an over-the-counter medication when you are experiencing the
condition or symptoms; however, for pain and fever, you are encouraged to
obtain a supply of medications before
you experience any symptoms or illness.
Please talk to your pharmacist about the use of over-the-counter
medications for pain and fever and to make arrangements to obtain your own
personal supply before you visit the pharmacy. If you have any questions, please call Health
Benefits at 1-855-550-5454.
