VANCOUVER First Nations in BC will achieve improved health outcomes by advancing health, education and economic development as the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) partners with the All Nations Trust Company (ANTCO) to improve internet accessibility in BC.

“People living in rural and remote communities deserve the peace of mind of consistent and reliable internet connectivity, in order to access critical health and wellness services,” said Richard Jock, FNHA’s CEO. “Our work with ANTCO will help improve the quality of health care for First Nations Peoples, in and out of community, as well as promote technological capacity in the province.”

On March 2, 2024, the FNHA and ANTCO signed a contribution agreement to support the FNHA’s health and wellness initiatives and close the connectivity gap experienced by First Nations. Over the next five years, the FNHA and ANTCO will work together to promote and foster technological growth and bring affordable and reliable high-speed internet to rural and remote communities in BC.

“We are pleased to support the efforts of FNHA as they embark on this meaningful project,” said Pat Fosbery, ANTCO’s CEO. “Ensuring reliable internet connectivity is paramount for our communities to deliver essential health services and care for the members and residents they serve. Together, we are paving the way for improved health outcomes and technological advancement across BC First Nations.”

This partnership builds on ANTCO’s Pathways to Technology project, which aims to extend internet accessibility to all 203 First Nations in BC. ANTCO works closely with participating First Nations, from planning and design to installation and training.

Through collaboration with ANTCO, the FNHA will continue to partner with First Nations in BC and government partners to improve health outcomes for First Nations peoples. This includes supporting internet connectivity installation and upgrades to provide remote access to health-care services in community.
