May 18 marks HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, a day to honour the ongoing global efforts to develop a safe and effective HIV vaccine, and to highlight the importance of HIV prevention. FNHA recognizes the historical and systemic barriers to HIV services and is committed to fostering culturally safe, stigma-free, and trauma-informed spaces for First Nations communities.

FNHA is excited to announce the HIV Community Wellness Initiative, a new funding opportunity aimed at supporting community-led efforts to prevent HIV, promote health, and deliver culturally safe care. This program provides funding of up to $25,000–50,000 per year (for a maximum of two years) to support community-led HIV initiatives. First Nations communities and organizations in BC are invited to apply for funding. Successful applicants will receive financial support, technical assistance, and resources to implement culturally safe, community-focused health initiatives.

What does the funding support?

  • Community education and health promotion: Projects that raise awareness, reduce stigma, and educate people about HIV/STIs through schools, workshops, and campaigns.
  • Improving access to testing and services: Projects that remove barriers to testing, treatment and care, especially in remote or under-served communities.
  • Culturally safe and holistic support: Counselling, peer groups, and supports that address emotional and social needs of individuals and families impacted by HIV.

We encourage you to apply and strengthen your community's efforts in building a future where HIV is no longer a barrier to health and well-being. Together, we can move forward on a path to healing and prevention, guided by the values of community, culture, and care. Learn more and apply now.
