The FNHA would like to congratulate Sonia Isaac-Mann on her appointment to the board of the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC), which leads the development and dissemination of innovative programs and tools to support the mental health and wellness of Canadians.

The nomination recognizes the contributions of our Vice President, Community Health and Wellness Programs and Services, to improving the quality and delivery of health services to First Nations in BC.

“I aim to apply all I have learned from my dedicated colleagues at the FNHA to the search for better solutions to the growing mental challenges and ensure the Indigenous perspectives are heard at the top level of government,” said Isaac-Mann.

Through its unique mandate from the Government of Canada, the MHCC supports federal, provincial, and territorial governments as well as organizations in the implementation of sound public policy.

The MHCC’s current mandate aims to deliver on priority areas identified in the Mental Health Strategy for Canada in alignment with the delivery of its strategic plan.

The MHCC’s directors, executive leadership team, Board, and advisory committees all share the same goal – creating a better mental health system for Canadians.

Isaac-Mann is Mi’gmaq from Listuguj First Nation.

As a member of the board, Isaac-Mann will bring to the table the community-oriented approach to the delivery of services and program supports to BC First Nations and advocate for culturally-appropriate mental health policies.
