Community Health Nurses (CHNs) in remote nursing stations work in an expanded scope of practice, providing primary care as well as public health, health promotion and emergency care (including after hours on-call care).
The FNHA has nursing stations located throughout the province, from coastal to northern remote communities. The nursing stations are staffed by two to four CHNs, working in full-time, part-time or casual positions. Part-time CHNs in nursing stations fly-in and fly-out of remote communities on a four-week rotation on an annual average of 0.5 FTE.
Community Health Nurses (CHNs) in health centres provide a comprehensive range of nursing services, including in health promotion and disease prevention. Their practice aims to build the capacity of individual, family, and community wellness.
They work with communities to develop and implement relevant, culturally centered interventions, providing services in clinical, home and community settings. CHNs in this setting are not on call and do not provide emergency services. Both part-time (0.5 FTE) and full-time positions are available.
