The Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society hosted their Day of Wellness event on National Aboriginal Day in collaboration with many partners. The event focused on holistic health and services for the local First Nations and Aboriginal community. Community organizations that attended the event mirrored those of the medicine wheel. These covered physical, mental, emotional and spiritual teachings, similar to the First Nations Perspective on Wellness.

With over 400 visitors throughout the day, the event was a great success. Some of these successes included a Kid Zone which had a range of activities for children and youth. The Red Fox Society were there to offer a range of fun and cultural activities throughout the day. The main stage had a range of performances which included drumming and dancing groups as well as local First Nations and Aboriginal youth. To add to this were the large number of Aboriginal vendors and information booths. All of these events and opportunities to expose the population to First Nations and Aboriginal culture was an enriching experience for all involved.
"We are grateful for the benefits of the event in that they build community amongst both the Indigenous and non-indigenous community members of Langley. Reconciliation is important and this event allows us to share the Indigenous cultures with others"

The event took place on the Traditional Territory of the Kwantlen, Katzie, Matsqui and Semiahmoo First Nations, organizers said it was important for events recognize, honor and respect their traditional teachings. The Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society supported this vision and the local community looks forward to the next National Aboriginal Day.
