About the Program

Communicable diseases (CD) are illnesses that spread between people, as well as through food, water and animals.

CD are interconnected with overall health and wellness, including maternal and child health (MCH).

The health and wellness of communities can be strengthened when we work together to prevent, treat and manage CD to stop the spread of illness.

FNHA's Communicable Disease Population and Public Health (CDPPH) team works with health providers, communities and partners to:

  • Deliver culturally safe MCH and CD health promotion, prevention and response programs in First Nations communities.
  • Increase public health awareness and build capacity through education, training and resources.

Provide effective and timely CD and MCH support to nurses.
