Effective Feb 6, 2024, an additional Ozempic product to treat diabetes, has been added to Plan W. The Ozempic 0.68mg/mL, (2mg pen) will be available for coverage, to ensure clients can continue to access a supply.

The ongoing global Ozempic shortage has created challenges for many clients to find pharmacies with the drug in stock. First Nations Health Benefits (FNHB) continues to provide coverage of Ozempic injections subject to a daily maximum limit. The supply challenges are expected to be resolved by March 31, 2024.

If you currently take Ozempic to treat diabetes:

  • Contact your pharmacy to request a refill of your supply ahead of time to avoid running out last minute.
  • Contact Health Benefits 1-855-550-5454 if you are being asked to pay for Ozempic at the pharmacy.
  • If you are not able to obtain a supply of Ozempic, consult your healthcare provider to determine if you should switch to a different diabetes treatment.
