The Medical Affairs and Wellness Office (MAWO) is dedicated to enhancing health care services for First Nations people and communities in British Columbia.

Our vision is to embody First Nations values and knowledge to emphasize a non-hierarchical and cooperative approach to providing medical affairs services. We prioritize the wellness of our medical practitioners to empower them to provide the best possible care to First Nations people in BC.

Through collaboration and mutual respect, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes wholistic healing and cultural safety.

About Us

The MAWO is committed to building strong partnerships with medical practitioners and ensuring they have the tools they need to provide culturally safe care for First Nations people in BC.

We do this by:

  • Fostering positive relationships between medical practitioners and our clients grounded in mutual respect and trust
  • Focusing on recruiting, onboarding and retaining medical practitioners who share our values and commitment to culturally safe health care
  • Providing leadership in negotiating provider contracts that align with the needs and priorities of First Nations communities
  • Advocating for policies and practices that promote wholistic primary care models, health equity and cultural safety at a provincial level​
