Accessing Pharmacy Benefits Outside of BC

4/16/2020

Clients of the First Nations Health Authority who are living outside of BC temporarily (e.g. as a student or temporary worker) can still access coverage for the medications they need.

If you are living outside of BC in another province, you can fill your prescription at a pharmacy as you normally do. If the pharmacy is registered with Pacific Blue Cross (PBC), they can bill your claim directly and reduce out-of-pocket costs. If the pharmacy cannot direct bill, please have them call Health Benefits at 1-855-550-5454. Health Benefits' staff can help the pharmacist find a solution to ensure you get the medications you need.

Out of Province Pharmacy Reimbursements

If you need to pay out of pocket for your medication, you can request reimbursement for eligible benefit items. It is recommended that you or your pharmacist contact Health Benefits at 1-855-550-5454 before you pay out of pocket for your prescription, to confirm if the drug is eligible for reimbursement.

Reimbursement requests for eligible pharmacy items filled outside of BC should be mailed to PharmaCare. Submit all original itemized receipts and prescriptions with the PharmaCare Out-of-Province Client Reimbursement Form. Mail requests to:

Health Insurance BC

If you have questions about your drug plan, including whether or not a drug is eligible for coverage, you can call Health Benefits at 1-855-550-5454.
