First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is committed to improving access to the Health Benefits program for First Nations people across the province. Recent updates to the Medical Transportation (MT) Benefit and the Medical Supplies and Equipment (MS&E) Benefit are designed to prevent out-of-pocket costs, improve access in rural and remote communities, and support timely service delivery.

MT Benefit: Easier confirmation for Cancer and Dialysis travel

Clients travelling under the MT Benefit have previously been required to submit written confirmation of attendance for each appointment. To better support those who travel frequently for cancer or dialysis treatments, First Nations Health Benefits (FNHB) has updated Confirmation of Attendance (COA) requirements.

Clients approved through the exceptions process for ongoing cancer or dialysis travel now have two options:

  • Continue submitting a COA for each appointment they attend. (Note: Grouping weekly or monthly appointments onto one COA is acceptable.)
  • Provide a treatment plan issued by their health care provider or clinic that outlines the frequency of scheduled appointments. (Note: Submit an updated plan every three months to your Patient Travel Clerk).

These changes will reduce paperwork, streamline reimbursement, and ease the burden for clients who travel repeatedly for ongoing treatments.

MS&E Benefit: Pricing updates

FNHB has completed a review of the MS&E Benefit to align coverage with current market costs. Effective Jan. 15, 2026, coverage amounts are being increased for 34 high-priority items, including limb braces, wheelchair repairs, and enteral feeding supplies. Visit the MS&E Benefit page for the most up-to-date fee supplement.

This update is part of an ongoing pricing review to ensure the MS&E Benefit remains accessible, equitable, and responsive to client needs.

Together, these updates to MT and MS&E Benefits reflect FNHA's ongoing commitment to improving access to care, reducing financial barriers, and simplifying processes for clients.

FNHA is pleased to offer comprehensive benefits across six areas:
