Communicable Disease Emergency Response Planning

CDE Response Planning Tools • Help with CDE Response Planning

The Communicable Disease Emergency (CDE) Management Team works with FNHA Regional teams to support First Nations communities across BC in updating and developing their CDE plans. Our goal is to empower communities with the tools they need to prepare and respond to communicable disease events of any scale, while recognizing the inherent self-governance that communities have over their health decision making and planning.

FNHA provides two types of planning tools:

  • Communicable Disease (CD) Response Toolkit- First Nations Health Service Settings (link below).

– Supports health service providers in maintaining essential health services during a CD event.
– Encourages planning, working with Regional Health Authority partners, and supporting priority community members who may need enhanced health services in an emergency

  •  Communicable Disease Emergency Response Plan Template- Community level (link below).

– Supports community leadership in coordinating with local, regional and provincial partners.
– Encourages community-led planning and integration with existing emergency frameworks.

CD Response Toolkit for First Nations Health Service Settings

This toolkit helps community health providers prepare for and respond to communicable disease situations from a single case to broader community outbreaks. It complements your community's CD Emergency Response Plan, with the goal of minimizing transmission and maintaining continuity of care at the health centre level.

Resources include:

Community-Level CDE Response Planning

The CDE Response Plan Template and Companion Guide support preparation, mitigation, and response at the community leadership level. Effective CDE response planning involves understanding risks, drawing on community strengths, and collaborating with health partners. To support a coordinated approach, communities are encouraged to also reference your community's All Hazards Plan and Rural and Remote Framework Plan.
