The Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society prioritized their youth as a focus for this year’s FNHA Winter Wellness Initiative. The event agenda was designed with a holistic scope of wellness activities in alignment to the FNHA’s four wellness streams: Being Active, Eating Healthy, Nurturing Spirit and Respecting Tobacco.

Physical wellness activities included bowling, tubing and FitNation classes. Attendees also had a range of health information and resources delivered through workshops on the topics of:
 tobacco awareness
 health careers
 post-secondary institutions
 healthy relationships
 self-defense
 eating healthy

The event was primarily attended by youth and their parents and supported by both cultural and youth support works from the region.

“The event had fun activities and I would do it again” Kainen Howse

“I loved bowling and meeting new youth. FitNation taught us about nutrition and exercise as way to keep fit and eat healthy” –Brittany Jenson

“It was great to bring the youth together, create a safe environment to learn, support the development of new healthy relationships and to broaden the youth’s perspective on personal health and wellness” -Participant

The organizing team would like to acknowledge the in-kind contributions from Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society, “without your flexibility, our event would not have been as successful.”
