The Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding on Mental Health and Wellness makes a mental health and wellness fund available. The fund supports Nations and aggregations of First Nations to come together to plan, design and deliver a full continuum of culture and strength-based mental health and wellness services, including prevention and early intervention.
The funding approach recognizes that each community and Nation is at a different place in mental health and wellness design and delivery. As such, eligible activities include planning, collaboration, design and demonstration.
The First Nations Health Council, the FNHA, the Government of Canada and the Province of BC share the perspective that better mental health outcomes require service coordination across ministries and government agencies. In addition to the financial commitment of the fund, the partners stand ready to work differently and engage their respective systems through a broader lens of “social determinants of health".
Support from FNHA regional teams and other partners is available for BC First Nations seeking to access this funding.
