Sending congratulations to all participants with encouragement to keep being active

A joint message from Monica McAlduff, FNHA Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Nel Wieman, FNHA Chief Medical Officer

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's 30x30 Active Challenge. No matter how much you moved your body, or what activities you participated in and enjoyed, we honour your commitment to prioritizing your health and wellness!

The theme for this year's challenge was “Time to Get Active," because we know that being active consistently is good for our overall wellness. This year's challenge was also about honouring where you are at on your wholistic wellness journey. Being active takes many different forms and looks different for everyone, so it is important not to compare your movement or exercise plans with others'. This is about you and your journey alone! We encourage you to continue this journey of being active past this month.

Every year we are honoured and grateful that First Nations people across BC share their wellness journeys with all of us, and all the unique ways they keep their mind, body, and spirit active and balanced. Here are a few of the great stories shared with us this year:

  • Barby Skaling, Yahalli, from the Gitksan Wetsu wet'en Nation in Moricetown, BC (Kyah Wiget), shared her story of finding the Vancouver Sun Run as a way to transform her life into an active wellness journey.
  • Dianna Smith, Kugwisila'ogwa, from the Da'naxda'xw First Nation on the Liǧʷiłdaxʷ territory of the WeiWaiKum, WeWaiKai and Kwaikah First Nations, shared a story of community spirit and wellness with Liǧʷiłdaxʷ Health Society's annual 5K RUN THE SPIT on National Indigenous Peoples Day.
  • Toni Muldoe, Gitanmaax, near Hazelton, shared her journey towards physical wellness after a health scare.

The 30x30 Active Challenge would not be possible without you all participating, prioritizing your wellness and sharing your stories! So, we raise our hands to you and say thank you for your continued commitment to your health. We hope you will continue this journey in being active all year long!
