Indigenous Student Program Now Accepting Applications for Latest Cohort

2/16/2023

Applications are now open for the First Nations Health Authority’s second round of the Indigenous Student Program (ISP) with the latest cohort starting in May 2023. This program is an innovative approach to a work term that provides Indigenous – First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students with professional experience in the health care field or within a supporting function. Eligibility for students extends to those enrolled or recently graduated from a post-secondary or graduate program, as well as recent grade 12 graduates. Practicum students may be considered based on available placement opportunities.

The ISP differs from typical co-op/practicum opportunities, as the goal is to match students’ education, skills, and career goals with the organization’s various needs. A large emphasis is placed on students’ learning and development, with continuous support, guidance, and mentorship throughout the term. Beyond professional development, this program also includes strong cultural components such as an in-person two-day orientation, Knowledge Keeper participation tobacco ties, and more. The work terms are four months in length and are paid positions

Students may apply to various areas of interest within FNHA, including: Community Health and Wellness; Public Health Response; Health Benefits; Human Resources; Finance; Information Technology; and more.

Working with dedicated team members and supportive leaders, participants of the ISP will be joining an organization that believes in both personal and professional growth. The First Nations Health Authority takes a wholistic approach to wellness that is based on First Nations teachings and is incorporated into all aspects of our work culture.

A brief information session will occur on March 7, 2023 at noon to 12:45pm to go over program in more detail and answer any questions. This session will discuss expectations and guidelines for the program, review the program timeline, provide instructions on how to apply and support applications for the May 2023 cohort.

The Expression of Interest to apply for the summer session is now live. FNHA will maintain an open-door policy for applications throughout the year for later cohorts at all times. Currently we are accepting applications for the May 2023 and September 2023 intakes.
