Since time immemorial, summer has been a season of increased outdoor activity, something that is essential to health and well‑being. First Nations people rely on our lands and waters to provide healing, nourishment, bounty, and balance. This sunny and warm season supports our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
To honour and celebrate these sunny days and our peoples being on our lands and waters, FNHA is launching our annual summer photo-sharing initiative for First Nations people living in BC. It will run from July 1 to August 31.
How to participate
Send your summer photos to cmo.office@fnha.ca with the subject line “Summer on the Land."
Include:
- A short description of what's happening in the photo.
- The names and Nations of the people pictured.
Selected photos will be shared on FNHA social media channels. All participants will be entered into random draws for a chance to win a $25 gift card.
What kind of photos to send
We welcome images of:
- Traditional activities — canoeing, camping, fishing, hunting, making dry meat, smoking or canning salmon, berry picking, canning jams or jellies, dancing or drumming at powwows, or attending outdoor cultural events.
- Everyday outdoor activities — swimming, walking, or simply enjoying time on the land or water anywhere in BC.
- All photos must have people in them – we are not looking for scenery-only shots. Please make sure everyone in the photos has given permission to share their picture with FNHA.
Show us how you or others connect with the land this summer. We look forward to seeing your photos!
